Are myspace-hosted fan sites considered lame?

I want to start a fan site for a certain cult classic movie, but there’s already a myspace ‘official fan site’ for the movie. I know nothing about myspace; are the fan sites there comparable to ‘real’ fan sites? Thanks

Personally I would give more credibility to a .com site rather than Myspace. also there are limitations at myspace and I think you would be surprised about the advantages of a .com (or .net or whatever)
