Album Review: Welcome To The Dollhouse |

“Once upon a time, there were 5 little girls Shannon, Aundrea, D. Woods, Dawn, and Aubrey. These girls had a dream: they wanted to make music and entertain. They go by the name of Danity Kane Welcome to the Dollhouse.” The aforementioned quote is the opening of the highly anticipated sophomore CD from reality TV sweethearts. Though the intro is seemingly suited for a demographic of prepubescent girls with a penchant for bubblegum pop, DK ihas a more sophisticated and sonically charged sound than that heard on their debut. What’s the best way to celebrate back-to-back #1 Billboard album debuts? How about a national tour? That’s what Danity Kane and Day26 will do starting May 24 when they kick off “Making the Band 4 — The Tour,” which will hit major cities from coast to coast, beginning with a gig at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando, Florida. In addition to the sometimes romantically entangled “Making the Band” boy and girl groups, the tour will also feature breakout “Band” star Donnie Klang, who Diddy diverted from Day26 in order to offer him a solo contract with Bad Boy. His debut, Come into My World, is due out in June, and the first single, “Take You There,” is out now.
When Kane’s second album, Welcome to the Dollhouse, recently debuted atop the Billboard 200, they became the first female group in Billboard history to have their debut and sophomore album enter the main chart at #1. Day26’s self-titled debut hit the top spot one week after Kane, setting a record for the biggest-selling debut from a male R&B group in the SoundScan era.The tour will be filmed for a new season of “Making the Band” slated to air in late summer and will feature another Bad Boy artist, Cheri Dennis. The itinerary for “Making the Band 4 — The Tour,” according to Bad Boy’s Web site. Source: MTV.com

Welcome To The Dollhouse, the sophomore offering from the Making the Band starlets Danity Kane (DK), seems poised to present them as a legitimate part of today’s pop music scene. With the girls writing and co-producing many songs on the album, it is evident to see in the finished product that they are maturing as artistes and are more than just a made-for-TV group. At the onset of the album, the listener is made very aware that DK is no amateur group. From the slick, dance-heavy production, to the flawless harmonies and catchy hooks, Welcome To The Dollhouse has one hot song after another. (Read more)

Pop girl-group Danity Kane released their second album two weeks ago, Welcome to the Dollhouse, with “Damaged” being the first single. The new songs are definitely more “slick” and over-produced, with each girl being highly autotuned. With every tune attempting to be catchy, the mostly up-tempo CD gives the girls a Pop flavor, more so than R&B. Behind the masking of over-production, it does seem that the girls’ voices have matured. The girls exude more vocal control and explore the depths of their range. The album is full of intricate harmonies and hard knocking beats. Of the six tunes that Danity Kane has contributed to the new album, “Lights Out” is definitely one of my favorites. Dollhouse is the album that listeners will turn to when they want to let loose. Source: TheCelebrityCafe.com
